The Ice Cream Shack

Quick History: Every town has its own rundown local ice cream shop in the middle of the shady part of town, and here is my review of ours. It always opens towards the end of march and closes the end of September and they have innovative flavors, decent portions, and fair prices.

My experience: It's an ice cream place and it's hard to mess up. But if you're one of the people who order Reeses, cookie dough, or oreo at every ice cream place, it's time to grow up and order some of these unique flavors that make this place worth it in my opinion. My all time favorite is the chocolate covered cherry, which tastes exactly as it sounds and has a real rich and not fakey cherry flavor that is really rare in sweets like ice cream. A very close second is their soft serve lemon ice cream, a selective taste but those who get it will get it. It's very soft and creamy, and extremely refreshing. I personally don't like ice cream flavors that make you feel heavy after eating them and this is not one of them. Another personal favorite is Banana Cookie, which is essentially a banana pudding with the vanilla wafers. Can you tell I like the fruit flavors?

    Those flavors sound AMAZING! I thought you had me at soft serve lemon, but then I saw banana cookie and my God! I'll most certainly be stopping by this weekend!

    If you love all the flavors at the Peoria Ice Cream Shack, definitely add the Sunnyland Ice Cream Shack to your list of places to try. They have even more options!

LaGondola Spaghetti House

Quick history: LaGondola Spaghetti House has been around since 1982, and has been an Italian staple in local eats in central Illinois. They are known for their sandwiches (shown above) known as Torpedos, their pasta, and bread. My personal experience: This is one of my favorite places to eat in town and the town over. First of all, the people who work at my closest location (Peoria) are nice and friendly. In the "about us" section on their website, they say that they value customer service and I definitely see this to be true. Their sandwiches, bread, and pasta are really delicious. You can buy the pasta sauce by the ladle, which I buy regularly to make pasta at home. That is what they are known for, but in my opinion, the most underrated item from this restaurant is their pizza. They have Sicilian (deep pan) and Neopolitan (thin crust) pizza. Introduction

     In this blog I will be exploring my journey as a local Peoria citizen putting a spotlight on all of the local places I know in town while giving you my overall thoughts. It is important in our family to support local businesses if we plan on eating out or getting any fancy drinks or snacks. I have seen some of the best places in the area go out of business because of lack of support from the community, so maybe this will encourage one or two or maybe even three people to give these places a try.
